Patagonian Fly Fishing Experience: Estancia Rio Penitente

Our Ranch Program is our most immersive and remote fly fishing experience in southern Patagonia. Based at Estancia Río Penitente, this all-inclusive program offers private access to wild waters, traditional Patagonian ranch accommodations, and a true sense of place far from towns and crowds.

This is the only Ranch Program offered by Natales Fly Fishing and is designed for anglers seeking authenticity, solitude, and exceptional fishing in a low-pressure environment.

This program prioritizes access and experience over luxury, and is best suited for anglers who value wild fish, private waters, and authentic environments.

Location: Estancia Río Penitente

Located in the Patagonian steppe of southern Chile, approximately midway between Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas. The estancia provides direct access to the Río Penitente, along with spring creeks and smaller channels located within the property.

Fishing: The Río Penitente

Fishing focuses primarily on the Río Penitente, a medium-sized river known mainly for its strong population of resident brown trout, as well as migratory sea-run brown trout entering from the Atlantic Ocean.

Techniques include dry flies, nymphs, and streamers, with both single-hand rods and switch or micro-Spey setups working well depending on conditions. Additional opportunities include spring creeks and side channels on the property, offering clear water, technical presentations, and sight-fishing possibilities.

All fishing is catch & release.

The Ranch: Life at the Estancia

Estancia Río Penitente is a working sheep ranch set deep in the Patagonian steppe. Life here follows the land — early mornings on the water, traditional asados, and quiet evenings beneath open skies.

All prices are per angler and all-inclusive. Guide ratio: 1 guide per 2 anglers. Single occupancy rooms available upon request. Custom or longer stays available on request.

Optional Activity

Guided horseback riding — Half-day or full-day rides across open steppe, river valleys, and rolling terrain. Led by local ranch staff. Suitable for beginners and experienced riders. Pricing and availability arranged in advance or during the stay. Not included in the Ranch Program price.
