What to Expect on the Grey Glacier Ice Trek
Your adventure begins at Bigfoot Grey Base Camp, located near Refugio Grey. After receiving your technical equipment and a safety briefing, you will hike to the glacier and step onto the ice. During the guided ice trek on Grey Glacier, you will explore natural ice formations such as crevasses, meltwater rivers, lagoons, tunnels, and ice caves.
The route may vary depending on weather conditions and glacier access.

Day 1 — Day 1
Itinerary – Grey Glacier Ice Hike (Approx. 5 hours)
1. Meeting Point at Bigfoot Grey Base Camp
Participants meet at Bigfoot Grey Base Camp, located in the Refugio Grey area on the shores of Lake Grey.
We recommend arriving at least 20 minutes in advance.
2. Equipment Distribution and Fitting
The guide provides all technical equipment included in the activity (helmet, harness, crampons, ice axe, and backpack) and ensures proper fitting for each participant.
3. Approach Hike to the Glacier
A short approach hike from the base camp to the glacier access point, with scenic views of Lake Grey and the glacier front.
4. Safety Briefing and Technical Instruction
Before stepping onto the ice, the guide conducts a safety briefing covering:
- Basic ice trekking techniques
- Proper use of equipment
- Safety rules and guidelines during the activity
5. Ice Trek on Grey Glacier (Approx. 2.5 hours)
The main experience begins: a guided walk on the glacier, exploring natural ice formations such as crevasses, rivers, lagoons, tunnels, and ice caves.
