Torres del Paine Trail Closures (March 23–25): Base Torres & John Gardner Pass

March 24, 2026

Travelers planning to visit Torres del Paine National Park should be aware of temporary trail closures between March 23 and March 25 due to adverse weather conditions in Chilean Patagonia.

According to Corporación Nacional Forestal (CONAF), the popular Base Torres trail (Mirador Las Torres) will remain closed from Monday, March 23 through Wednesday, March 25 due to a high risk of landslides and rockfalls.

In addition, the Perros–Paso section of the John Gardner Pass, part of the well-known “O Circuit” (Macizo Paine Circuit), will be closed on March 25 due to forecasts of strong winds, snowfall, and precipitation. Authorities will reassess conditions on March 24 to determine whether the closure needs to be extended.

The closures follow a preventive weather alert issued by Servicio Nacional de Prevención y Respuesta ante Desastres (SENAPRED), warning of snow, blizzards, and overcast conditions across the Última Esperanza province.

The Dirección Meteorológica de Chile (DMC) has also forecast moderate precipitation across Patagonia, while Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería (SERNAGEOMIN) warned of potential landslides, debris flows, and rockfalls in the areas of Natales and Torres del Paine.

Despite these closures, most trails in Torres del Paine remain open, including routes along the W Trek, making it still possible to visit the park with adjusted plans.

Travel Tips:

  • Check daily updates before entering the park
  • Avoid restricted areas for safety reasons
  • Follow official guidance from park authorities

CONAF emphasized that all affected trails will reopen only when conditions are safe for visitors.

Torres del Paine National Park will temporarily close the Base Torres trail and John Gardner Pass from March 23 to March 25 due to severe weather conditions, including snow, strong winds, and landslide risk. Other areas of the park remain open, and visitors are advised to stay informed and plan flexibly.
